I want to publish zines, rage against machines
So: moderately successful indie band get dropped by label, but decide that they can still make money by touring if they build up their fanbase online. Thus prompting the Guardian to write:
An acclaimed indie band will next month leap into the unknown by becoming the first established act to give away an entire album for nothing in a move which could spark a music industry revolution.
No, seriously, they really aren’t.
That’s less than a minute’s googling (“give away album” and “giving away album” are the search terms you’d be wanting there). It’s pretty cool the band are doing it (I’ll definitely check it out), and neat of the Guardian to cover them doing it – it’s just a shame that they did it by writing something to transparently untrue that the whole thing faintly whiffs of regurgitated press release. Which is exactly what you don’t want.
